Replant Clarksville, with help from volunteers, planted 50 trees at Civitan Park. Then, we planted 300 trees across seven CMCSS school campuses. All of this was completed by the end of January 2026. Over the next two years, volunteer teams will be watering, monitoring, and caring for the trees.
“We chose to plant large trees that will have a big visual impact right away,” said Jeff Robinson, president of Replant Clarksville. “CMCSS has been a great partner and we’re looking forward to more projects with them in the future.”
Wes Powell explained that winter is an ideal time to plant trees, “Planting trees while they are dormant, without leaves, reduces transplant shock. The tree can focus its energy on growing roots in winter, increasing survival rates when growing season comes.”

CMCSS and Replant Clarksville worked together to select schools across the county that were in greatest need of trees. During December 2025 and January 2026, trees were planted at these schools:
- Oakland Elementary
- Barksdale Elementary
- Minglewood Elementary
- Liberty Elementary
- Northwest High School
- West Creek Campus
- Kirkwood Campus
Student Involvement
JoAnn McIntosh, founding board member of Replant Clarksville, is the chair of the Volunteer Committee. She organized participation in the plantings by local Girl Scouts and will continue to work with the schools on education as the trees grow. Aurora and Diana Kangas, students at Oakland Elementary School, attended and assisted with the tree-planting at their school on January 13, 2026. The girls are spreading the word to other students and parents about the beauty and benefits of trees, aided by art teacher Mallory Goodwin and Principal Molly Willis. Aurora and Diana are working toward having Oakland Elementary certified as a Tree Campus K-12 by the national Arbor Day Foundation – a project which will also earn recognition from Girl Scouts of America, including a Bronze Award for their troop.

The Replant Clarksville board is already busy working to reach our goal of planting 1,000 trees in the 2026-27 fall/winter season. We’ll also be doing outreach and education and starting new programs, including residential trees.
