Four CMCSS Schools Chosen for 184 New Trees

Working with CMCSS, we have identified four elementary schools that will receive trees this fall. Scroll down for maps of each site.

  • Oakland Elementary – 52 trees
  • Barksdale Elementary – 39 trees
  • Minglewood Elementary – 44 trees
  • Liberty Elementary – 49 trees

Benefits of School Trees

The plantings will add shade to sidewalks and provide a range of environmental benefits:

  • Reduced flooding in parking lots and roads near schools
  • Cleaner air – Tree leaves and bark collect particles and reduce pollution
  • Summer cooling – shade and evaporation from leaves reduces the surrounding temperature

Tree Selection and Care

Each site’s trees were chosen using the “right tree, right place” approach, considering mature size, canopy shape, soil, sunlight, and resistance to local pests and disease. All are native species that support pollinators and provide ecological benefit.

The trees will range from 8- to 12-feet tall at planting and will be professionally installed. Replant Clarksville volunteers will water and monitor them for the first two years.
